Box Score

LEWISBURG, Pa - The American University men's soccer team needed a win or a tie at Bucknell on Saturday to qualify for the four-team Patriot League Tournament next week, but got neither in a 3-0 loss to the Bison.

The Eagles were on the wrong end of the opening score. In the 14th minute, Bucknell's Justin Wolf scored his fifth goal with a shot that tucked inside the far left post.

American tried to answer before the end of the half, but with Bucknell dropping back, the Eagles could only muster one shot on net for the remainder of the period, which was saved.

Bucknell added to its lead in the 62nd minute with a fortunate bounce. Conor O'Brien's shot tipped into the net off the leg of an AU defender, giving the hosts a nearly insurmountable 2-0 lead.

With its backs to the wall, American's attack became more aggressive, firing the game's next five shots. However, BU's Joey Kuterbach made three saves and the other two shots missed the net to preserve the 2-0 lead.

Bucknell tacked on a late goal to make the final score, 3-0.

American concludes its season 6-9-3 overall and 3-2-2 in the Patriot League. With the loss today, American failed to qualify for the PL Tournament for a second straight season.
