Once An Eagle, Always An Eagle - Favorite Memories

"My favorite AU memory is far and away the cold November day in Worcester, MA in 2003 when my teammates and I won the first Patriot League Field Hockey Championship for AU. I will never forget were the dedicated parents and fans on the sidelines, including my brother in the 'Clawed' outfit; the victory lap with the team; and the overwhelming sense of team unity and accomplishment."
Laura Miller (Field Hockey, 2004)

"There are so many favorite memories at AU. The latest would be seeing both the Women's Soccer and Lacrosse teams go on to become Patriot League Champs and to each get a berth to the NCAA's the year after I graduated. We came so close my senior year to both titles and to see both teams win the next year was great."
Amanda Detterline (Women's Soccer and Women's Lacrosse, 2002)

"It is hard to pick one moment! Some of them are: the first time we won the Patriot League Tournament and Melissa was jumping up and down with the trophy in her hands; waking up every morning at 5 am; road trips; and beating Maryland for the first time in school history (as the clock ticked down the final seconds the crowd erupted). There are so many field hockey memories and I will hold all of them dear to my heart."
Kristen Collins (Field Hockey, 2006)

"I'll never forget my first collegiate win, by pin at University of Northern Iowa. Not only did I win, but we got stuck in Iowa for a week and a half because DC airports were closed due to a huge snowstorm. On the last day we were stuck there I had my eye kicked in at practice and it was swollen shut for three weeks. Awesome."
Adam Montgomery (Wrestling, 2005)

"I'll never forget finishing the 'Cooper Run' during a torrential downpour at 6 a.m. and cheering on teammates until they finish!"
Lindsay Wynn (Women's Soccer, 1999)

"My favorite moment was when we beat George Mason for the first time in AU women's soccer history in double-overtime my freshman year in 1995."
Carrie Albright (Women's Soccer, 1999)

"Rallying from a 20 point second half deficit to defeat George Mason by 19 points."
Darryl Franklin (Men's Basketball, 1996

"In addition to being recognized at graduation with the Cassell award, my favorite memories from playing basketball include contributing in my first varsity game to the defeat of Georgetown at McDonough Gym, defeating GW when the rivalry between the schools was revived in my senior year on our mutual home floor at Fort Myer, a rare victory over St. Joseph's at home, any trip to play in the Palestra and an upset win over Syracuse at the Fort in my senior year when they were nationally ranked. Receiving the grant-in-aid to attend AU was a great gift in my life. I grew up in the D.C. area and played high school basketball locally and playing locally in college was a added treat for me and my family, several of whom faithfully made their way to Fort Myer, even for the early starts for the Freshmen games, for so many of the games. It was a long time coming, but AU's participation in the NCAA tournament this year and the manner in which they competed was extremely gratifying, especially as a former player."
David Driscoll, Jr. (Men's Basketball, 1970)

"Opening Night of Bender Arena with a sold out, crazed crowd and an AU win."
Andrew Bon Salle (Men's Basketball, 1988)

"My favorite AU Athletics memory was in the fall of 2004 when the cross country team qualified for the NCAA Championships and went on to finish 20th at Nationals."
Matthew Barresi (Cross Country and Track and Field, 2005)

"2003 & 2004 Hawaii trips with the Golf Team."
Paul Servidio (Golf, 2004)
