Athletics Facilities
American University's 16 Athletic teams compete and practice on the school's five major athletic facilities. Recently renovated Bender Arena (approximate capacity 4200) is the home court of the men's and women's basketball teams as well as the six-time Patriot League Champion women's volleyball squad and nationally ranked wrestling team. The wrestling team's practice facility, the Marilyn Meltzer Wrestling is inside the Jacobs Fitness and houses the wrestling staff offices as well. Adjacent to Bender, inside, is the Reeves Aquatic Center, home to the AU men's and women's swimming and diving teams. The men's and women's soccer team play on Reeves Field, while the track and cross country teams train primarily on the Greenberg track surrounding the field. Newest to the AU facilities is the William I Jacobs Recreational Complex, a state-of-the-art astroturf field built in 2005, which is home to the nationally-ranked field hockey team in the fall and the women's lacrosse team in the spring.
